Whether you are new to cooking, new to the area, looking for a kid friendly activity or upgrading your menu to eating sessional the CSM Farmers’ Market is for you.

Open from 9am – 1pm every Saturday (year round!) it is huge and full of everything you could want.

KURA Tip: Not sure that to do with the seasonal veggies you picked up? Hit up their website, it’s always full of great new recipes to try out.

Roam Burgers

WHY WE LOVE IT

Eating clean and having a social life can co-exist and we think they should! We like Roam because of their quality. Their protein is sourced from ranchers and farmers dedicated to traditional methods of agriculture and all their seasonal produce comes from local farms.

KURA Tip: Order the Seasonal Market Salad with a Bison Trio, hands down better than any burger bowl you have ever ordered.

WHY WE LOVE IT

It feels like small town. The owner Felipe still runs the cash register and knows everyone’s name. The food is fresh AF and the service is always on point.

KURA Tip: If you like a good strong cup of coffee this is the best you will find in San Mateo. If you’re like Coach Melissa, pair it with their Eggs Breakfast, if you are feeling like Coach Josh, the Salmon omelet.

Peet’s Coffee

It’s early AM or you’re taking it on the go, then this is the place to go.

KURA Tip: If is a weekday you’ll be lucky enough to meet Joe, challenge him to a push up contest, we dare you.

It’s all about the experience, pour over coffee made to taste by bay area hipsters, enough said.

KURA Tip: Look for one to these two guys – Zach or Chris, they are the best two baristas in the word – yup the world.

Kitchentown Café

WHY WE LOVE IT

Because you wouldn’t even know it exists. Located in a residential area, Kitchentown is the best kept secret, so good we almost didn’t want to share it. If you are looking for an off the grind cool experience then this is our recommendation.

KURA Tip: Save room and give yourself permission to get a baked good, you won’t regret it.

Seal Point (Dog Friendly)

WHY WE LOVE IT

If you’re looking to get outside without having to drive far this is our recommendation. Great views of the both the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges, the mile loop can be walked, ran, biked, rollerbladed and is doable with kids and pets.

KURA Tip: Looking to take it up a notch, bring a heavy object and have at some hill sprints.

Sawyer Camp Trail (Leave the pup at home)

Skyline Blvd & Crystal Springs Rd, San Mateo, CA 94401

WHY WE LOVE IT

We love this trail because you can make it as long or short as you want.

KURA Tip: BYO water, there is no drinking fountain and it tends to get warm so make sure you screen up and bring a water bottle.

Windy Hill Preserve (Dog Friendly)

Portola Valley, CA 94028, USA

WHY WE LOVE IT

The Anniversary Trial is Coach Melissa’s favorite bring-a-friend and catch-up hiking spot. The sun is always out, you get a good mix of flat and uphill so you’ll be able to break a sweat and the view at the top is great.

KURA Tip: Want to make a day of it? Hit the Hamms Gulch trail to make an 8-mile loop of amazing forest terrain that makes you feel like you’re hours out of the city.

Higgins-Purisima Trailhead on Purisima Creek Trail

Higgins Canyon Rd & Purisima Creek Road, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019

WHY WE LOVE IT

7 miles of amazing views! The best part of this hike is that there is never a boring view. You start out in the cool dark forest, make your way uphill into the grassy hills of the skyline and then back into the forest.

KURA Tip: Start mid-morning and then stop off at Dad’s Luncheonette on the way home for a Burger and a view of the ocean.
